After googling, we tend to go to wikipedia and find further details regarding the search term... To make this simple, a user javascript is available, which can be downloaded and used so that when searching in google, wikipedia results for that search term is displayed beside the results, you can switch off this feature in a single click or open the wikipedia results in  a new page..The javascript and the procedures and screen shots are available here[Click Here]...

It is a good practice in using catalogers like "visualcd" etc., which indexes the files in each cd rom and saves the details in your hard disk...so that a simple search for a file name in visual cd helps you find the exact cd name in which the file is present...My personal advice is that rather than naming the cds and their contents, number them so that you can arrange the cds numerically. Finding the cds become easy when arranged sequentially....

an alternative for reading pdf files is a free software called

what will you do?
you would say delete *.scr files from system32 folder under windows folder...
correct but also remember the following 2 points..
1. before deleting the scr file choose the screensaver you want to be present in your pc from rt clicking the desktop rather than the system pointing to that screen saver you are about to delete.
2. Also delete the .scr files from dllcache folder in system32 under windows folder to completely remove the screensavers..
After restarting you would find only the screensavers you chose to have... in screensaver tab under display properties (rt click desktop)

Probably you know this..

If yur system hangs donot press the reset button...
There is an option to restart immediately..
Go to task manager ctrl+alt+del under processes choose explorer.exe and press end process...
Your desktop icons, status bar etc, will disappear..
do not panic..
under files in task manager click new tast and type "explorer"..
Done... your system is back again in its perfect shape..

Are you a Fonts Freak....
Then that might be the reason for extended startup time...
Create a folder say"FONTS"wherever you need in your syste,,,
Go to fonts folder in appearances in control panel..
Select all the fonts and drag and drop in the "FONTS" folder you just created..
System will become unstable for a few seconds..
do not worry..
Xp would recover immediately by placing the needed fonts again...
But remember to install the fonts such as Times New roman and whatever fonts you need other than the basic ones installed by XP by dragging and dropping them back in to the fonts folder in control panel
This greatly reduces startup time

If you do not know the basic settings necessary to keep the system safe.. use the following application -- SafeXP

Generally while opening My computer, the system searches for any network folders. So uncheck this option(1st option)in folder options (Tools --> Folder Options). Ofcourse, to be followed only if you do not have any shared folders.

To improve the maximum utilization of the virtual memory alloted, specify the minimum and maximum level for the same value. This is done by rt clicking my computer and by selecting advanced tab and under performance, select settings and in advanced tab change the initial and maximum values to the same size

Photos from your digital camera, they often have unrecognizable seies of numbers or names. You can rename several similar files at once following this procedure. This also works for renaming other types of files.
1.Open the folder containing files that you want to rename.
2.Select the files you want to rename.
3.On the File menu, click Rename.
4.Type the new name, and then press ENTER

Remove msn messenger from your computer typing the following command in run window
 "RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove"

Press the Windows key and the L key (WinKey+L) at the same time to lock your system or you can type the following command "rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation" in a text file and change its extension to a bat file and place it in the desktop. Double clicking which will lock your desktop

To speed up the launching of Photoshop, add ~(Tilde) in front of those plugins which you would not use much in the plugins folder present in the installed directory....When you need the plugins remove the tilde...

To make your computer look good and also to shorten the start menu, create a folder somewhere in your system and drag the shortcuts from the start menu and place it in the folder( say drag norton antivirus from start menu to a folder called security also similarly antispyware etc.,)
and remove all the programs listed in the start menu and removing all the shortcuts, drag this folder in to the start menu .. This would help you organise softwares on their contexts.

Hide files in Jpeg image --Keep Your files secret in a different way --
Create a folder of any name in a location of your choice..
Copy a jpg file and a file of any format to the created folder..
Convert the file in to a rar file or zip file....
now in command prompt type the following command
c:\folder name /b picturename.jpg+filename.rar newname.jpg
{go to the "folder name" by using "cd foldername" command in command prompt, picturename is the name of the picture file and filename is the name of the rar file and newname is the name you need to give for the created jpg file}
1file copied will be displayed...
now delete other files from the folder other than newname.jpg
now if you double click the picture file it will open as a normal jpg file
but if you open the jpg file using winrar or winzip it would show the file stored inside the rar file too..

Many a times you would feel why you did not create a restore point before starting to work on the registries...
There is another way of taking backup of the original registries before editing...Rt.click on the "mycomputer" in Registry editor (type regedit in 'run' to go to registry editor) and click export...All the original registries will be exported to the location you mention...Double clicking which, all registries will be restored...

Upgrading your file system to NTFS
You can upgrade to NTFS using CONVERT.EXE. in 2000 even after installation...........
For example:
Go to "Command Prompt"
Type:CONVERT C: /FS------------------------------(Converts drive C to NTFS:)
Press ENTER

Generally after opening the program from start menu, the start menu closes...
To avoid it press shift key while launching a program from the start menu to launch
multiple programs......
